Pump House Gallery are looking for members of the public to participate in an art project by Baptist Coelho an artist from Mumbai, India. He has been awarded an Artist Residency in the UK with Delfina Foundation and is currently in London undertaking a period of research which will culminate with an exhibition at the Pump House Gallery in March 2012.
Baptist’s project takes its starting point from the history of the Battersea Park and the London borough of Wandsworth which have witnessed World War 1 & 2. Within the history of these two wars and current conflicts Baptist’s work focuses on the life of a soldier; not as a military professional but an individual with emotions and vulnerabilities like any other human being.
For his research, Baptist is looking for stories from the local public, current ex-military or family/relatives/friends of soldiers that are directly or indirectly connected to World War 1 and 2 and/or current wars and conflicts.
He is ideally looking to meet for informal face to face conversations but can also accept submissions via email, or is able have conversations via telephone. Research material from these conversations will help in developing the artwork for his exhibition but identity of contributors will remain anonymous and unattributed. To speak with or meet Baptist in person, please get in touch with him directly on mobile: 07440727867 or email: baptistc27@gmail.com
Exhibition Proposals
We do not operate an open submissions policy for exhibitions, it is a curatorially led programme, planned 2 years in advance. Occasionally we do have opportunities for artists and these will be publicised via our email list that we invite you to join here. Please do also keep us informed of what you are doing though by adding us to your mailing list.
Pump House Gallery are delighted to announce its new volunteering scheme. Being part of the volunteer programme at Pump House Gallery will provide participants with valuable insight into the workings of an exciting contemporary art space and develop skills relevant to forging a career in the arts sector and beyond. Your contribution as volunteer will have a real impact to the galleries goal in providing the community with access to high quality art related activity.
